"Fear Her" is a lot of fun to rewatch. Both for the fun character interaction and the dark subtext.
I do like how understated the Doctor/Rose relationship is. Pretty much every other TV relationship ever is about (U)ST. The plot pretty much goes: "ARE THEY GOING TO KISS? OMG THEY KISSED! WILL THEY HAVE SEX? OMG THEY HAD SEX! ARE THEY GOING TO BREAK UP? OMG THEY BROKE UP! WILL THEY GET BACK TOGETHER? OMG THEY GOT BACK TOGETHER!"
And while that can be fun, it acts like relationships are only about sex, or at least that sex is the most important aspect. But here it's about the characters, how they interact, how they learn from each other, how much they need each other, and how they grow together.
I can see the argument for it not being sexual (because we only get a couple of sexual moments between them, and those are debatable) but I'm not sure how you can argue that it wasn't romantic. Everything--the way its filmed, the way its acted, the way the story unfolds--looks like two people falling in love and dealing with it.
Yeah, to be honest, I think the Doctor needs Rose more than she needs him. She has a loving family and is very capable of developing emotional connections with others, and now she's got the skills to kick ass and save the world on her own, too. Whereas the Doctor is incredibly emotionally needy and has a much harder time connecting with others. (I've got a half-written post about how what a lot of people interpret as "the Doctor being an asshole" is actually him being desperate for emotional connection but nearly incapable of understanding/using the necessary social and emotional skills to really connect.)
