Looks interesting. There are moments when I want an all-region player, but then I look at what I can't afford in Region 1 that I desperately want and decide I don't need to be looking at Region 2 DVDs.

I've had to convert AVI and WMV files so they're in proper .MPG format before burning to VCD. What I think they meant by "play anything" is all regions, CD-R and DVD-/+R. That's the big thing, because if you can't play home-burned disks, the machine has a limited appeal these days. My Samsung was only $99 at Thanksgiving and while it's Region 1 only, it's big appeal is being able to play home burned discs. When we picked it up at Fry's, we actually tested it with a somewhat off-the wall SVCD of "Darla" because I figured that was the big test. Worked beautifully and drew a big crowd as it played on a large HDTV they had the player hooked to.

Yes, we ran it forward to the Fanged Four walking through the streets of Peking. Such fun.
