I'm still pretty stunned about the cancellation. I've been on LJ for less than a year. Before the end of Buffy, I'd never even read fanfiction (in fact, I scoffed at the very idea! I don't even think I knew what slash was). But I started to seek it out after the final episode, and was lucky enough to stumble upon BuggerThis! first thing. (God help me if I'd found FF.net! I wouldn't be here now, probably). I've found so many wonderful people through LJ, and fandom. I like to think that this community has stronger ties than just, "Oh, the show's over, let's pack it up and move on." There's still so much vitality and creativity here. You're right, people are going to move on. But I think there will always be a core of people who want to tell stories with these wonderfully rich characters. I guess I'm optimistic this evening. I'm sure I'll be back to my regularly scheduled cynicism tomorrow. :)
