Yeah. I can love things in fiction that I don't agree with in real life. (Remember back when Spike fans were all "serial killer lovers"...?) It just creeps me out a bit to see people actually wishing that Gene's behavior was still acceptable in the modern world. Yeah, lovely until you get falsely accused and then he beats you up and plants evidence... :P
