You guys, I seriously cannot figure out how to use this Google Plus thing.

Do I create two separate accounts, one with my real name and one with my fannish name? I really can’t see myself bothering to maintain/read both, especially since I’d mostly be using the app on my phone (where I do most of my “fun” internet these days since I’m always at work and the work internet is super-filtered) and I don’t think the Android app has the multi-login feature.

And I really can’t see Google Plus becoming a fannish platform, since they’re trying to enforce a real-names policy, and they have an anti-porn policy. Plus what if we all put lots of effort into creating accounts there and then we get deleted for being pseudonymous anytime someone grudgewanky reports us?

On the other hand, most of my fannish friends seem to be joining it under their fannish names, and I feel really weird adding fandom friends from my real name.

And if it does become a fannish platform, I want to be able to fully participate, not censor myself because the account is under my real name.

My recommendation: Wait at least a few days. It's OK to take your time.

I know things are moving fast right now about G+, holy crap speed of light fast, but... it's not like suddenly only the people who've already created accounts will be able to get in. You can create an account or two later, as you choose.

And better apps for managing multiple accounts will become available, if you decide to go that route.

I think I might be the only person on the planet who has no interest in Google+ whatsoever. Then again, I swore off Facebook years ago and only maintain a shell account. I guess I just don't want to spend a lot of time investing in a site (especially that's tied to my e-mail address -- thanks for the dry run, Buzz!) only to be burned by the fine print in the end.

I made an account and I'm using it once a week or so, but mostly with real-life people (and a few fannish friends I'm on a real-name basis with). Since I've never used Facebook, I guess I'm using it for the kind of stuff people would do on Facebook.

(I definitely don't see it as fannishly useful, if for no other reason than that the comments lack threading.)

I think I'm going to delete mine. The fact that if your account gets suspended there, it could cause you to lose access to OTHER Google services makes me really nervous, not to mention I'm really offended and their clueless and hurtful anti-pseudonym policy. *sigh*

And I had high hopes... I usually root for Google!
