Here is a nice essay exploring the idea of Spike as the embodiment of chaos. It's a very interesting perspective on why Spike fans like him so much, and why we don't mind his "evil" as much as ME wants us to. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] superplin for pointing it out.

I also liked this post by Lisa comparing Buffy, Aerin Sun, and Dana Scully as heroines and "feminist icons." It's here on BAPS (you have to register for BAPS to read it, which takes about 30 seconds if you already have a yahoo ID). I liked this one because it points out all the reasons why I don't like Buffy, and then shows that it doesn't have to be that way in order to have a complex and interesting character. You probably shouldn't read it if you're a huge fan of Buffy the character.

Thanks, Laura--
while I actually like Buffy-- suprising as it is to me, and both as a human being and as a hero--, the essay does bring up some valid points. The Spike-as-Chaos one I downloaded...which reminds me (*pimp mode on*): did you read that little Spike as a Mirror (http://www.livejournal.com/users/monanotlisa/15295.html) essay? &;-)

Glad you thought it was interesting. :) Yup, I read the Spike as a Mirror one a while ago and liked it a lot. Thanks for mentioning it. :)
