Everyone's doing this meme. I don't usually post these, because I think "everyone's going to think I'm selfish and hate me for posting this," even though I never think that about anyone else who posts these.

But anyway, I really enjoyed reading the responses in other people's journals. It's neat and interesting how people in fandom are so interconnected. So, I'll post this anyway:

1. How did you first hear of/meet me?

2. Where and when did you first hear my name/see my work/meet me?

3. With what people/series/groups etc. do you associate me and/or my writing?

NOTE: This is not a praise or feedback meme, this is just to track the path of my online presence and to see the connections involved, to find out how people link together.

(Just ignore the whole "writing" part, since I don't write.)

Also, I just looked at my entry from last night, and man, I really shouldn't be allowed to post after 3am.

after my friend brigid told me that there was actually a lot of fanfic (which i had never read before for any fandom) about this vampire tv character i was obsessed with (which shocked me cuz i thought he was kinda goofy lookin' i've always had weird taste in guys and i had no idea anyone else even liked him) i did a search for "spike" "fanfic."

i got some horribly sad results that made me despair at the sorry state of this thing called fanfic. i found some hope with a couple archives that turned up that actually had some well-written stuff. but the archives were closed and woefully out of date. i found ficbitch, which rocked. and then peasant's plot, which gave me my fanged four fetish.

then i found allaboutspike.com.

wow.

it was the biggest, best-designed, easiest to navigate archive site i had found and the fics it contained were actually quite good.

i got inspired to write "chain" when i realized fanfic wasn't just silliness as i had feared. i had no intention of actually posting it.

then i changed my mind and decided to ask my stupid questions as to how to go about posting my fic somewhere at the allaboutspike discussion board.

and the moderator was really nice and didn't treat me like the idiot newbie that i was. she gave me some good advice that i mostly followed. except for the beta thing, cuz i was too impatient for that. (yes, i suck. ::hangs head::)

had the moderator smacked me down or mocked me for my massive ignorance i probably would have backed away slowly and disappeared from the internet altogether.

and then that moderator actually showed an interest in my silly little story and encouraged me to continue it.

so basically, everyone has that moderator to blame for irfikos' presence on the internet.

::points finger::

it's ALL. YOUR. FAULT.

i don't go to the boards or anything all that much so i don't know what you get up to there. but your lj rocks and i'm glad you didn't give it up.

Gah, it's really scary to think that I could have that much influence. I'm glad I was nice that day and encouraged you! This place is much better with you around.

I remember being kind of nervous because you were typing in all lowercase. And usually when someone types in all lowercase, their fic is *also* in all lowercase, and reads as if written by an eight-year-old. But then you posted a few more times and I realized that you were way smart. So I'm glad I gave you the benefit of the doubt! (I mean, I probably would have been nice even if you had turned out to be an eight-year-old, because everyone deserves encouragement, but still. I'm glad I took you seriously, because you're one of the best writers in this fandom.)

I'm sooo glad I encouraged you to write "Chain." Yay! :)

Thank you! LJ is pretty much the only place I post now. My forum is dead, dead, dead. Though I keep it around in case, y'know, someone like you shows up again. I do occasionally post a sentence or two on BAPS, but mostly it's just LJ.

Oh, BTW, you posted the other day about song lyrics. I loved the lyrics at the beginning of each section of "Chain." They fit/aided the mood of the story, and it wasn't necessary to know the song to "get" the lyrics. It would be really cool if you kept that up in the sequel. (The objections to "song fic" are when the song is interwoven into the story, which is painful and lame, especially when the reader doesn't know the song. I've never heard a valid objection to lyrics at the start or end of a story or its chapters.)
