Everyone's doing this meme. I don't usually post these, because I think "everyone's going to think I'm selfish and hate me for posting this," even though I never think that about anyone else who posts these.

But anyway, I really enjoyed reading the responses in other people's journals. It's neat and interesting how people in fandom are so interconnected. So, I'll post this anyway:

1. How did you first hear of/meet me?

2. Where and when did you first hear my name/see my work/meet me?

3. With what people/series/groups etc. do you associate me and/or my writing?

NOTE: This is not a praise or feedback meme, this is just to track the path of my online presence and to see the connections involved, to find out how people link together.

(Just ignore the whole "writing" part, since I don't write.)

Also, I just looked at my entry from last night, and man, I really shouldn't be allowed to post after 3am.

Baps and the Troika lists.
All About Spike and then LJ.
And I wouldn't be without knowing you;)

Though LJ ate my kitty appreciation/Word over the Joss issues post:)

Oh, let's see...

I first stumbled across you when I very first poked my nose into this on-line fandom. I found the Bloody Awful Poet Society website after doing a search on "James Marsters" and found their wonderful archive of fic links and convention reports.

Someone named Laura had written up the best summation of a convention ever and had supplied a bunch of photos. I was so thrilled because I'd read and admired the stories written by the people who were in the photos.

A while later I'd managed to write "Who's Been Shaggin' in My Bed?" and you sent me a note asking to archive it. I went to your site to check it out and found another great convention report. Then I realized you were the same Laura and I was just insanely excited about that. WOW! You'd shared this great info and built this beautiful site. So, basically, I was stuck with total awe -- and still am.

I am pretty sure you came along and friended me on LJ. At which point I friended you back.

I didn't know of your connection to 'All About Spike' until [livejournal.com profile] missmurchison mentioned it, but that is what I associate you with now. I'm always interested to read of your occasional travails there!

1. I first heard of you when you emailed me back in the summer of...2002? FF.net had kicked all NC-17 off its site, I was away from home and I think I might have been between apartments and jobs as well. And I asked if anyone would be willing to host Modus, which was still only partly finished. I forget how I even asked, since I didn't have LJ at the time. But you emailed and offered All About Spike, and saved my bacon. For the first time.

Actually, I think you'd sent me feedback on Modus when I was posting it in chunks on FF.net, but since I didn't really know who the heck you were at the time, that don't count.

2. Uh, I think this is asking the same thing, isn't it? Or is it asking about meeting in person? We haven't done that, so...

3. I associate [livejournal.com profile] drinkthepoisonx with the good stuff. The good fic, all in one place, elegantly organized and easy to use. Professional archiving, for free. In short, da bomb. It's hard to say who I associate you with, specifically, because you're so tied in with so many writers for me. M'Sally, Rahirah, Peasant, Herself, Chase, Anna S.... You know. The BNFs. Heh.

And, just a side note: you asked in a comment recently about archiving some of those stories I keep forgetting to revise. Ahem. I'm sorry, life's been crazy and of course will continue to be. But I'll try to get it done soon, and will let you know when I have. And yes, I'm still very interested in having stories on AAS. There is no more rocking archive on the Net.

Posts on the lists of course - but mostly it was the site I knew of first. Then meeting at my first con and you just had the coolest hair. Meet ups in NY, hanging out, shopping tips, vegan restaurants :) and we got to know each other.
So I have to say it was All About Spike first (no pun intended), then the lists and when I came to LJ it was pretty much a no brainer to friend you. I always enjoy your insights and we agree on many of the stuff on fandom (soul, schmoul!). Even when we don't agree - it's always a pleasure to hear your thoughts.

Note: I loved your handle from the start, but never have met someone who is so *not* about poison. You are a really sweet person, hon. In the best sense of the word.

1. How did you first hear of/meet me? - I know Liz talked about you from BAPS a few times before I met you last year for the first time.

2. Where and when did you first hear my name/see my work/meet me? - Liz introduced us at the Creation Fangoria convention in NYC a year ago now.

3. With what people/series/groups etc. do you associate me and/or my writing? - I actually just associate you with you, because I met you before I got to know your online presence. Now that I know you online as well, I still just know you as you! ;oD

I was enjoying the fabulous allaboutspike.com long before I discovered that the webmaster is Laura aka drinkthepoisonx on LJ. Last spring/summer someone on LJ linked to one of your con reports and it started one of the kerfuffles regarding JM's interpretation of Spike. I've been following your posts ever since. I like to read what you have to say: about the fandom, NYC, vegan recipes (even though I'm not).

The first time I heard of you was when you left a review at ff.net of my first story, "Aftermath." I was so surprised that anyone would review it that I think I memorized all the comments.

I didn't realize All About Spike was yours for a while--I visited and fell in love with the archive, and gushed about it on TWoP, but didn't make the connection. I was just thrilled that someone had put together such a high-quality Spike archive.

I associate you with love of Spike; All About Spike; loathing of Buffy; and love of Spander.

#1 -- I first heard of you when you friended me after I posted Behind Blue Eyes.

#2 -- which is also when I began to see some of your work.

#3 -- You're in the Buffy Fan's grouping of my flist

Someone in a chat gave me the link to All About Spike. I browsed the site and just was amazed at the amazing fic you had archived there-- most of my reading attempts before then were not of the good, so it was really cool to find a place with a lot of great fic, all centered around my favorite character. Your site was a big reason for getting me hooked (I remember especially loving how you sorted by Time Period, since there are times I love reading fic set in particular seasons/episodes).

I can't remember how I found out you had lj, but once I realized it I friended you right away-- and I know you're not asking for a suckup fest at all, but I'm perfectly honest when I say I love reading pretty much every post you make, especially ones with your insight toward fandom.

I hate to say it, but I first heard about you through this big ol' kerfuffle.
I stayed around for the convention review, Buffy talk, and your concert talk. I'm a Brooklyn girl, and I miss going to shows in the city, so it's nice to read music and concert posts. I also love your site, where I can find good Spike fic (because TV Spike makes me and the baby Jesus cry.) Lastly, you wrote a post once about Han and Leia being your ship; it was a great read and a nice break from Buffy ship posts.
I guess when I think of you, I think Spike, un-souled and un-Buffied (or would that be un-Spuffied?)

I first heard of you on BAPS, I think. Definitely one of those lists, anyway. I think - think - I actually contacted you about travelling from NYC to Cleveland, but that didn't work out. I then heard of you for sure through allaboutspike. I really can't remember when that was, but I surfed onto the site by following a succession of bookmarks from other fic sites and started reading. I first met you at Cleveland, where you stood out cause you're so damn pretty. I associate you with allaboutspike, fandom commentary, life in NYC, big black boots, veganism and bands I've never heard of. :)

[identity profile] cindergal.livejournal.com 2004-02-20 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I first ran into you on BAPS, but I'm not sure I realized you were "that" Laura (the AllAboutSpike Laura) for awhile. You were one of the first people to friend me on lj, so ::hugs:: to you for that. And of course I associate you with Spike and soulless redemption.

[identity profile] dragolyn.livejournal.com 2004-02-20 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I heard about your site ages ago, and I met you at the Tampa con when I was working on the autograph line and you asked if you could put my fic on your site. I liked your cool outfit. And, lol, promptly forgot to email you when I got home. But hi! :D

1. Ummm....the first time I can remember being aware of you was when you asked to archive "Glimpses". Did I talk to you at TWoP before that?

I have a brain like a sieve. No, really.

[identity profile] irfikos.livejournal.com 2004-02-20 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
after my friend brigid told me that there was actually a lot of fanfic (which i had never read before for any fandom) about this vampire tv character i was obsessed with (which shocked me cuz i thought he was kinda goofy lookin' i've always had weird taste in guys and i had no idea anyone else even liked him) i did a search for "spike" "fanfic."

i got some horribly sad results that made me despair at the sorry state of this thing called fanfic. i found some hope with a couple archives that turned up that actually had some well-written stuff. but the archives were closed and woefully out of date. i found ficbitch, which rocked. and then peasant's plot, which gave me my fanged four fetish.

then i found allaboutspike.com.

wow.

it was the biggest, best-designed, easiest to navigate archive site i had found and the fics it contained were actually quite good.

i got inspired to write "chain" when i realized fanfic wasn't just silliness as i had feared. i had no intention of actually posting it.

then i changed my mind and decided to ask my stupid questions as to how to go about posting my fic somewhere at the allaboutspike discussion board.

and the moderator was really nice and didn't treat me like the idiot newbie that i was. she gave me some good advice that i mostly followed. except for the beta thing, cuz i was too impatient for that. (yes, i suck. ::hangs head::)

had the moderator smacked me down or mocked me for my massive ignorance i probably would have backed away slowly and disappeared from the internet altogether.

and then that moderator actually showed an interest in my silly little story and encouraged me to continue it.

so basically, everyone has that moderator to blame for irfikos' presence on the internet.

::points finger::

it's ALL. YOUR. FAULT.

i don't go to the boards or anything all that much so i don't know what you get up to there. but your lj rocks and i'm glad you didn't give it up.

1. I first heard of you because of All About Spike. I was totally hooked on BtVS/AtS, and searched online for novelisations and other sources to feed the addiction ... and ran across fanfic. I'd always scorned fanfic, and the BtVS fic I found did little to disabuse me of this opinion ... until I found AAS. I realised that not only was fanfic a fascinating and complex writing genre, but that Spike was the focus of my Buffy addiction, and that fanfic was the solution to the problems I was having with canon Spike.

2. I first heard your name/started thinking of you as a person and not a website because of your Con reports, and then because of your LJ.

3. I don't associate you with people/series/groups, other than as webmistress/archivist at AAS. I associate you with standards of writing. Whenever I'm working on a fic I always have, in the middle of my mind, the concern that I will or won't be worthy of archiving at AAS. Not that AAS approval is the only criterion of fic quality, but it's certainly a useful standard to strive for.

You were the starting point for my BtVS/AtS online fandom experience. I lucked out by finding AAS almost immediately, and through AAS and your LJ I've found other writers and points of contact.
