I took my website down because the mysql (database) is running slow, and I've been warned that if it does this one more time I'll be kicked off my server. So I'm taking it down now, hopefully before anyone at the hosting company notices.

I don't know how to fix it. When I call tech support, they do *something* that gets it running quickly again (restarting something-or-other). The problem is that I can't call them to fix it, because then they'll know it's running slow and they'll kick me off.

I tried: shutting down mysql, running myisamchk, restarting mysql, restarting apache, reloading mysql. This usually fixes it briefly, but then it starts running slow again after about five minutes. I don't know what else to do.

Anyway, you can still get to most of the pages on the site, but the main page is down, which should significantly reduce traffic. You probably won't want to browse the rest of the site anyway, as all the database driven pages are running terribly slow. I'll put the site back up whenever mysql starts running normally again. *sigh*

(I don't have time for this. I have deadlines at work, four papers due for school this week, and I really need to do laundry. I'm going to have to rewrite all the queries on my site and maybe restructure the database tables, yet since I don't actually know what the problem is, I don't know if anything I do will actually work. Whine, whine, etc., ad nauseum...)

Edited to add: It's been running fine for the past hour, so I'm putting the site back up. The root of the problem still hasn't been solved, though.
