I love "Fear Her" a whole lot, basically for the reasons you listed. I almost don't mind that the plot is so clunky because it lets the characters do all the heavy-lifting, and those are generally my favourite DW episodes anyway.

I think there's a lot going on in the D/R relationship - and you've really hit upon the main points - but I like how understated it is. We're not being *told* that the Doctor and Rose are good partners for each other, but we're shown it. I can almost get why someone might not see the romantic angle between them (as opposed to the purely platonic) because the two things are so tied up in each other.

(And for all the talk about how Rose is too dependent on the Doctor, I think he's at least as emotionally dependent on her. He just has a harder time expressing it. And I think the taking her hand and the line about having been a father are signs that he does want to truly open up and connect with her, and is just starting to get comfortable enough to do it... and then time runs out. *sob*)

Agreed! (And the 'hand to hold' thing is really the most adorable and dorky thing ever. Oh, Doctor.) I'd even argue that the Doctor is more emotionally dependent on Rose because I can't imagine Rose is going around on her alt!earth dishing out pain and torment to aliens who piss her off. The fact that she made him so happy post-Time War is HUGE by itself, and I think that tends to get overlooked.

And, man. I've got to admire you going back to L&M. I don't think I ever could.
