I made a bunch of little changes and fixes on the All About Spike story listing pages last night. Everything should be working fine now, but if you encounter any errors, please let me know.
I also noticed that I've accumulated quite a few stories that are missing summaries, ratings, etc. If you're an author with fic on my site, you might want to check your author page and make sure all of your work is listed properly. If something is listed incorrectly, just let me know and I'll fix it.
I mentioned before that I'm having a hard time maintaining interest in fandom anymore. Because of this I haven't been reading much fic lately. I know there are quite a few people whose work I'm supposed to read and possibly archive. I haven't forgotten you, I promise! It's just going to take longer than I thought. But I will get to you.
I'm so incredibly tired of debating about Buffy stuff, and I'm sick of the stupid arguments and insults and everyone taking things way too personally. So I'm just going to focus on fanfic and leave the arguing to everyone else from now on. Though for what little it's worth: I do think Spike's better than Angel. So there. :P I realize that this is because of my own personal tastes and ethical views, and that others have every right to disagree. I will not make moral judgements about other people because of their opinion on this issue, and I would appreciate (though do not expect) the same courtesy.

"You accept that my dislike of Angel, though in some way contributed to by comparisons to Spike, in no way originally developed from a comparison between the two. The author has made an independent analysis of the characters and arrived at this conclusion without any agenda to further." Once they'd signed it, then we could talk.

Date: 2003-07-31 04:43 pm (UTC)See, you don't like Xander. He's often been put in an adversarial position with Spike. I do like him. We don't turn it into a major issue. (Whine mode on.) Why isn't it like that with Angel? Whhhhhy?

And dude, as an Angelho I still respect you in the morning. Hope it's mutual. :}

Date: 2003-07-31 04:15 pm (UTC)The respect is definitely mutual. Glad we can disagree and still get along. :)

Date: 2003-07-31 04:06 pm (UTC)Fandom as such is not *that* interesting. I like fanfic, vids, the show(s), well written critiques and reviews and discussions on writing,
and I like reading about some people's personal lives, but I avoid the big discussions - they are way too time consuming anyway. We all breathe the same air, so we have to give each other some space to breathe. Not everything is personal. That's what I like about conventions, you see the people behind the handle. It's easier to have different opinions and still like each other.
Also, it seems to me that some people are very competitive, eager to be judged the winner in a discussion, rather than enjoying the diversity of opinions. That makes for a poor 'Streitkultur' (a German term meaning both 'etiquette for arguing' and 'a climate in which arguing is considered invigourating and entertaining')
Concentrate on those things that make you happy. Read fic that makes you happy. Or go out to a pub and have a drink or fruit salad *without* thinking you ought to update your archive instead. Go swimming. Visit a friend. Invite someone over for dinner. Normal stuff. :-) Recharge the batteries. Make good use of the hiatus....

Date: 2003-07-31 04:29 pm (UTC)Yup, definitely. That's what I really loved about Vulkon. It's so different when you're talking to a real person.
Thanks for the ideas. (Last night, I actually watched a movie instead of going online! I think it was the first time I turned on my TV in several weeks.) I have been thinking less about the archive lately, but then I feel guilty because it means I'm ignoring nice and talented people who would like to see their fic on my site. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
I also think that I should get a lot done during this hiatus. On September 2, school starts again. Bleeeech. This will be my final year of college and it looks like it's going to be really busy. I don't even want to think about how stressed I'm going to be, balancing work, school, and fandom.

Date: 2003-08-01 06:11 am (UTC)If you treat the archive as work you will be stressed (says the girl who's husband calls it 'working' when she's writing fanfic'). Yes, letting people down is not nice, but those talented writers will not see their fic archived by you in a year or so if you wear yourself out now.
Try to find a balance.
The thing with full-time fandomers is that they/we never take a day off. We spend as much time on the hobby as other people on their job, but often we do it 7 days a week.
Not good. Try to have one day per week off.
Besides, reading fanfic is supposed to be fun! *smooch*
What are your college subjects? And your plans for the future?

Date: 2003-07-31 05:27 pm (UTC)I was having that problem, too, until I just sort of took a breather from it, got maybe just a little too addicted to Pirates of the Caribbean, and then came back and saw everything with a fresh outlook. Also, I've been acting as though I don't even know the kerfluffles are happening. That works pretty well for me. :)
