Well, this is the ... fifth? time I've seen it. But my reaction was the same; I loved it. My Spike is back! Finally and thank god. No more moping, brooding, whining, groveling at Buffy's feet, blah blah blah boring stupid crap. He's got his snark back, he's making the right choices and doing the right thing, but he knows he can't change the past and he doesn't give a fuck about atonement. (And why should he? He can't change what's already happened; he's living in the moment and doing the right thing now, instead of moping and whining about things he can't change.)

This is like the Jaime Lannister style of redemption that [livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns and I both love. (You all have to read George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series; Jaime gets the best redemption story.) He keeps his snark, he keeps his badass attitude, he's conflicted--but he makes the right choices. This is what I saw in the Spike of late season five that I fell in love with--and now it's like MY Spike is finally back. My only qualm is that he's still got that stupid soul, but I can ignore it if he keeps acting like this.

Plus, the dialogue was snappy, the humor was hilarious, the slashiness was yummy, the villain was creepy, and Marsters and Boreanaz have unbelievable chemistry.

And, okay, the dubbing was annoying and the plot was a little silly, but I don't care because MY SPIKE IS BACK! :)

I posted some more specific comments about the episode over here, btw. I'm too lazy to repeat that here ... but it's my response to some specific criticism I keep seeing.

Watching it was very fun. [livejournal.com profile] jaydk, [livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns, [livejournal.com profile] chenanceou and Jerry (who needs to get a LJ!) all came over and watched it at my place. We had snacks and drinks and ordered Indian food, and talked and laughed and hung out and such. I love my Buffy/Angel fandom friends. :)

Indeed, it is a very good time to be a Spike fan. I'm curious as to the reaction of all the non-Buffy Angel fans who met him for the first time. I think there was the proper amount of animosity and a tease of mistrust but in the end Spike was the better man. Good eppie.

I read your other comments.

Yes.

My problems with the inconsistency or just total failure to deal with this stuff are currently being channeled into a fic where I wank away at what we did get, which is actually precious little, till the end result suits me. I'll be getting to some of this pretty soon.

I had a great time - thanks so much for having me over! In fact, I had such a great time that I basically didn't notice most of the gripes that people seem to have on LJ today ... Obviously, watching with you guys dulls my hypercritical faculties ;) Hee!

Love the specific comments. You said what I would say if I were not so lazy and not writing an essay and better-spoken. That about covers it. Yes.

Also. Indian food! Mmm.
