Lots of people liked the "Fiction by Theme" idea for All About Spike (explained here). So I'm going to play with it tonight--anyone have ideas for categories that they'd like to see? So far I've just got:

Humor
Fanged Four
Threesome (?)
Soulless Redemption (you know I have to throw that in)

Holidays:
Christmas (what's a non-denominational term I could use for "that time at the end of the year where most people celebrate and give gifts and sing songs"?)
Valentine's Day
Thanksgiving
Halloween

I'm sure I'm missing a lot of obvious possibilities. What would you like to see?

I'd say Winter Holidays for a generic Christmas term :D

Unfortunately, it doesn't work for us who live south of the equator, although it's true that few BtVS or Angel fics are set there.

How about "Festive season"?

I worry that "Festive season" might be too vague; what about "End-of-Year Holidays"?

Maybe...Hurt/Comfort? Darkfic? Fluffyfic? (Or whatever the opposite of Darkfic is?)

off the top of my head suggestions (warning: some suck, surely):

no specific romantic pairing
(cuz so many sites seem to categorize by pairing but neglect to consider that sometimes a story might not have one ( - i mean, hey, if you include threesome as an option...)

angst & horror
(er... no reason...)

souled spike
(but we'll forgive the author)

human spike
(again with the forgiveness - for the human spike stories that are actually good enough to make you forget that you'd rather be murdered slowly with a cheese grater than see spike as a human) (there were a couple pretty good ones... but yeah, just a couple)

evil spike
(not so much with the redemption, but spike... yum.)

webmistress' choice
(your very favorite fics, or maybe just the ones you've specifically recced)

essays
(might be fun to try having - essays on spike or essays on specific fics or whatnot)

just to name a few.

These are neat; thank you!

I do actually have "No Pairing" as a pairing option. It's at:
http://www.allaboutspike.com/pairingpage.html?pid=33

("Chain" is one of the stories listed. :)

angst & horror
(er... no reason...)

Hee. Yeah, I'm sure, no reason. ;)

But that is a good idea, actually. Though they'd probably be separate categories, and angst is kind of hard to define, but horror would definitely work.

souled spike

Oh, as if there aren't enough souled Spike stories out there already! :P

human spike

Eeeeeewwww. But yeah, you're right ... there were a couple. Maybe. I don't exactly want to make them easier to find.

evil spike

Well, y'know, technically my site is a redemptionist site, and I don't archive stories where Spike is totally evil. There's always some spark of humanity where I can see how it could lead to his eventual redemption. (I know many, many authors would beg to differ, but *shrug* that's how I see it.)

webmistress' choice

Oooh, fun! I might do that. :)

essays

That's actually something I forgot to put on the list--I was thinking about having a whole separate essays section. They'd have to be separate from the stories--sort of a whole different project. I'd really love to set it up ... I want to get the code neatened up for the other sections first, though, before I embark on something so new.

I don't know if there would be enough fics to justify this as a category, but I'm fond of post-apocalyptic and far future settings - stuff with a sci-fi feel.

Also, I second the recommendation for angst. I'm usually looking for something to make me cry.

I don't know if you want to tag specific kinks or not, but since we're talking about a vampire here, bloodplay/bitey might make the cut (no pun intended).

Yes, yes, yes!
Please? I'm begging nicely *G*. Good stories in this genre are so hard to find. I think there are some at AAS and I'd love to read them - it would be a great help if they were labeled. ;)

If you, or anyone else, has some recommendations in that genre, can you mail them to me. I'm starting up an archive of that fiction and I'm looking for good stuff to include.

Thanks

And of course after I hit "post" I remember a type of Spike fic I'm always looking to read - Chip!Out!Spike. Maybe this falls under soulless-redemption, but I'm specifically thinking of the "spike gets chip out and chooses to keep playing for Team Slayer, without a soul" type of story. Love, love, love it, because it's all about getting his free will back.

By pairing is always a good idea. Seriously.

I like your ideas. Sometimes I'll read a really good story and instantly want more of that type.

What would you like to see?

"Buffy/Scoobie dies a horrible gruesome death."

Sorry, couldn't resist. ;-)
