Be rude to the guy instead. You've got zero reason to be nice to him. Maybe if the place ain't so accomodating, they'll take their love shackin' elsewhere, or at least be quieter about it. I'd recommend the living alone thing unless your social circle would be adversely affected. I've scrimped to do it myself, so I can attest to the bite it takes out of your finances, but your living sitch isn't a small item in one's day to day sanity level. Money can be got. Time and stress... harder to replace.
