Trent Reznor spoils Million Dollar Baby
Heee. It's funny to watch celebrities being brats.
I didn't watch the Oscars last night. Although I remembered later that I should have watched for Orlando Bloom;
jaydk was all excited that he was presenting. And Johnny Depp, of course, I should've seen. But it's really not worth wasting hours of your life for a couple of minor glimpses of celebrities.
I was channel surfing the other day, and came across this FOX show "Celebrities Without Makeup." I was so stunned by the horror that I actually watched an entire segment. Afterward I wanted very badly to scrub my brain out with a very harsh scrubbing brush. It's put me off TV for at least a month, I think. Well, except the Daily Show. (I missed one last week and there was no rerun. Goddammit, Comedy Central, you suck!)
I'm still at work, finishing a project and dreading walking home in the blizzard. *sigh*
I just got a video in the mail, ordered through eBay, of a live performance of a Japanese band calledSchwein Schaft, featuring Raymond Watts, from 1994. Looking forward to going home and watching that.
My coworker stopped by my desk today and asked me what I was listening to. I saw "Uhm..... a band called Pig, which is a project from an occasional member of KMFDM, which is a fairly popular industrial rock band."
*blank stare*
Yeah, I'm weird.
dizenchanted just called and she wants me to post pics of us with Tripp. (Oh, you screwed up girl!) I'll try and remember to do that when I get home...
When
10zlaine was here last weekend, I showed her videos of different bands. She quite liked KMFDM (hee! my evil plan to seduce her to the dark side is coming to fruition!) I think NIN disturbed her, though. I showed her some videos from "Closure," including "Happiness in Slavery." I forgot how graphic that is, if you haven't seen it a million times. (It's this naked guy getting tortured by this machine and then killed and ground up into mush.) I mean, it's a mainstream video compilation that you can buy in any Best Buy. I should've shown her the "Broken" video. (I got that off the internet when I was 12; some guy gave it to me free in exchange for me buying one of his band's CDs, which sucked.) I don't remember much about that video, except that it's where I learned what "fist fuck" meant.
And yet, funnily enough, the stuff I read from all you seemingly harmless fanfic writers tends to be much more graphic and fucked up than anything I've seen in any industrial music video. The "Broken" video is nothing compared to some of the Angelus/William fic out there....

Date: 2005-02-28 06:54 pm (UTC)I just spend so much time either simply *not* or deliberately not thinking about inordinary things that when I do see or read about them, I'm not prepared. Don't get me wrong, though. I'm far too perverted enough to be unusually interested in them--probably why I don't actually let my mind go there...
Fact be stated--Crumb is far more vile than anything we've seen in a great while.

Date: 2005-02-28 09:02 pm (UTC)hah! the exact same thing happened to me. i even desperately channel-surfed during commercials hoping that i could find something, ANYTHING to take me away from the terrifying experience. yet i kept flipping back, like it was a black hole of crap that was just sucking me in. and i had to take a bath afterward.
now i don't feel so bad, knowing that someone else succumbed. though i am worried for the both of us.
as for nine inch nails videos… i blame them for largely contributing to the person i am today. i have their collected vids that i bought at best buy on VHS years ago (VHS! how quaint!) and i used to just watch them over and over in the dark. they were always so amazing. and part of why i initially wanted to be a documentary and music video director back in high school. and i don't care what anybody says, the video for "the perfect drug" is one of the best cinematic bits of vampire imagery out there. and the video for "wish" turns me on every freakin' time.
yep. worried.
:-)

Date: 2005-03-01 07:58 am (UTC)When I was 15/16, we used to have parties where we'd watch that video over and over. NIN was always sort of a background presence throughout middle/high school.
Though I think by the time I was 17 or 18, I started to feel like there was something very whiny and spoiled about Trent Reznor, that turned me off. Like his lyrics reminded me of stuff I wrote in my diary when I was 13.... and there just seemed like something fake about him. But that could also be because I just didn't like The Fragile very much.
Oh, I LOVE the "Perfect Drug" video. The colors in that are so gorgeous. It's like the visual embodiment of an Edgar Allan Poe story.
One of my other favorites is "March Of The Pigs," actually. Trent staggering around, looking completely fucked up and gorgeous, in leather pants and is it fishnet? on his arms. Mmmm.

Date: 2005-03-01 05:46 am (UTC)I had to go and meet Dilly Keane, a member of "Fascinating Aida" at the airport when I worked at an Arts Centre, and I assumed I'd know her from her poster, but she bore no ressemblance whatsoever to it! She looked about 60, and in her publicity material she looked 25!
