Aug. 11th, 2003 01:21 pmWorking on the whole server transfer thing. It's actually transferred over now, so if you go to allaboutspike.com you're looking at the new version. I'm still working out the kinks, though. (For some reason, I can't receive the review alert emails at my hotmail address, but I can get them at my work address. And I can't get the mail forms working at all. I wonder if it's some weird anti-spam security setting at the new server?)
I think everything else is working though. Please let me know if you find anything strange or funny or not working, no matter how large or small.
(I did get one good thing working, which is that I figured out to block certain posters from leaving reviews. So "spuffy4ever" or whatever, who was leaving nasty reviews for all the slash stories, has been banned. Hehehe.)
This weekend was a combination of fun and stressful. First, the stressful: my roommate announced that she's going to be moving out on September 1. When she moved in, I specifically asked, in writing, for two months notice. Instead I get 20 days. The thing is, if I don't find a roommate in time, I have to pay the whole rent myself. Which will probably mean no conventions next year. So I put a bunch of ads up and spent Sunday showing the place. The good news is that one girl seems really interested, and she's supposed to come by tonight and bring the deposit. At least this is a good time of year, since all the college kids are arriving. (I'm also particularly sad because this is the first roommate I've really gotten along with. We're friendly, and we talk, and she doesn't do anything horribly intrusive like blast music or have loud sex or leave dirty dishes all over the kitchen.)
But otherwise, the weekend was good. Friday night I went to
jaydk's place, and
queenofthorns brought the Sean Bean Sharpe series DVDs. I didn't really get the appeal of Sean Bean before, but now I must say it's really quite a tragedy that he's not going to be making out with James Marsters. It was also fun hanging out with
jaydk and
queenofthorns. (Did you know
queenofthorns wrote Vita Nova? I'm clearly a moron for not realizing this. I love that story, despite its tragically unfinished state.)
Then Saturday I had the Johnny Depp party at my house. It was very fun. I had a ton of food (mint, almond, and banana chocolates; chocolate cookies; spice cookies; grapes; cherries; carrots; squash; broccoli; vegan sour cream dip; hummus; guacamole; peach-mango salsa; sesame blue chips; pico de gallo chips; barbecue soy chips; vegan cheetos; and so on...). Everyone (that's
jaydk,
drujan,
soulmate815) was at my place around seven, and we decided to go in chronological order. So we started with some 21 Jump Street that Marlaine had actually taped back in the 80's. Dude, those 80's hairstyles and clothes and commercials are just so fucking hilarious. In a cool way, really; I love the 80's. It was very entertaining. And Johnny was just adorable. Marlaine also had a tape of "Teen Idol Johnny Depp" doing an interview with some entertainment news show around 1989. They asked him what his ideal date would be, and he said that he'd take Nancy Reagan to some hot dog place in L.A. It was precious. And you could tell how completely uncomfortable he was with the whole teen idol thing.
Then we watched Cry Baby. Marlaine actually had an electronic press kit for it, so we watched all the interviews and stuff. It was really cool how Johnny was talking about how he wants to have an unusual career and make unique choices, and looking back now, he really succeeded at that so well. Cry Baby was great, as usual; it's just a fun, silly, entertaining movie.
Then, Sleepy Hollow, which was also fun. It's not really one of my favorite movies, but I do love Tim Burton's visual style, and I thought the acting was excellent (Johnny Depp is quite good at comedy). We kept talking about all these other movies that we want to watch, too, so maybe we'll have another Johnny Depp night at some point. The night went really late: Jane left around 2:30, and then the others stayed talking until around 4:30. It was really fun; good company and good conversation. I'm glad it worked out so well.
So, now I have to go troubleshoot cgi formmail stuff. Oh, and like, work.
