I ordered Christmas gifts for my family on Amazon.com on December 12. All items were in stock, available now, and sold by Amazon.com.

Amazon JUST sent me an email telling me "Oops, sorry, turns out it's taking longer than expected to find one of your items, so your order won't arrive until after December 26."

Um, hello, THEY'RE CHRISTMAS PRESENTS. And I ordered way early!

They won't even let me cancel the order or expedite the shipping.

So either I give my family nothing for Christmas and ship it all later, or else I have to go to Barnes & Noble and hunt all this stuff down in real time, then bug Amazon for a refund when the stuff eventually arrives.

*cries*

*urges friends to avoid Amazon for important purchases*

Hey! Happy holidays to you and [livejournal.com profile] jolielaide! :)

Between Amazon, crazy people harassing me on eBay, waiting in line at the post office for an HOUR, baking approximately three hundred million cookies, and the fact that my cat ATE AND THEN VOMITED UP my pretty Christmas ribbon...

I am just about to start tearing my hair out.

*deep breath*

Tonight I'm going to ... do yoga, or something. While drinking hot tea. And going to bed early. Yes.

you waited in line for an hour? and you didn't even complain in the email...

Did you tell Amazon to ship everything at once? I *hate* that option, because if even one thing is off or late, they'll hold the order forever. I've started not doing that, anymore, even if it's not very ecological.

::pets you::

Oh! But I just ordered Profit to watch on Netflix, so that's something good...even though it's not *your* good, but otherwise my life sucks with papers and shit...and shit...and at least, even with barf, you don't have *that*...

You can't go to the post office here without waiting at least 40 minutes. I tried to kill time by going to the "automated postage machine" because the line was about 1/4 long as the regular line, but it turns out that it moves about about 1/5 the speed, so I actually would've been done quicker if I'd stayed in the regular line (and then I would've been able to mail my international stuff, too).

I would seriously pay a MASSIVE tax increase if it meant they would keep the post office open 24/7 and give it a decent staff.

I'm changing all my eBay items to US shipping only because I cannot deal with going to the post office to mail stuff any more. (And the stupid post office won't let you mail international packages without actually going there and giving them to a human.) It's just too stressful, and then I keep putting it off and people freak out and send me the nastiest letters, like you wouldn't believe how rude people think they're allowed to be when they can't see your face.

Yeah, on Amazon I selected everything at once, because that's the only way to get free shipping, and because it was all "available now" and it said it would definitely arrive before Christmas! I checked their charts and timeframes and everything! I ordered on December 12, the deadline was December 17th! For once I was early!!

"Profit" ... yes ... "Profit" is awesome. I'm so glad you're watching it. Have you seen any of it before?

Shit? Like real shit? Huh?

I seriously went to pick up my Christmas ribbon which was on my bed surrounded by wrapping paper and bows and scissors and tape, only to find that it was COVERED IN BILE. Like, she (I know it was Angel!) had climbed over everything, not touching any of it, making a beeline for the ribbon, and managed to swallow and then regurgitate it all right there in the same place, and then go back to her perch on the windowsill and fall asleep like nothing ever happened. Except for the ribbon being covered in bile. UGH.

On the plus side, everyone's said good things about the cookies, and I'm so glad I got them mailed out. I just hope they arrive without breaking or the packages falling apart or whatever horrible thing. I'm already worrying that I didn't use enough tape to hold the boxes together or that I didn't slap enough "priority mail" labels on the side. *sigh* *not going to worry, nothing I can do about it now*

I always tell them to ship it all together, and yet, the last three orders I've made have been shipped in increments. Go fig.

AGH!!!

I find looking at pictures of Alan Rickman tends to calm me down at times like this.

Hang in there! WWARD?

Could you print off pictures of the covers and give them on Christmas, then pass on the actual books when they arrive?

Profit is freaking amazing. I actually watched it when it was on Fox, so that's me and Dave Greenwalt. Maybe Adrian Pasdar.

I might print off the covers. But it's just, y'know, I go there and really the entire point is the unwrapping of presents. That's the only thing we do together, as a family, for the entire year. So I should have the actual wrapped pretty presents. *sigh*

They shipped this morning and are scheduled to arrive after Dec 25, despite my calling Amazon last night and them promising to figure out what was going on. So I'll wait and if they don't arrive on Saturday, I'll walk over to B&N and pray that they have them there. *sigh*

Oh, and I totally watched Profit when it aired! Well, actually it was one of those shows I kept meaning to watch, and then I finally watched an episode and realized how completely awesome it was... and then it turned out that was the final episode ever to air. I was pissed off about that for YEARS. So glad the DVDs are out now.

i am also a big fan of the "super-saver shipping" so i understand.

since they had assured you initially that they would get it to you before xmas, can you insist that they ship the available stuff NOW (for free, of course) and ship the OOS item later?

it seems only reasonable that they would do this. i think that if you pressed the matter they should relent.

i can't say for sure though, because aside from a couple returns, I've never had a bad experience w/amazon. even the returns went swimmingly.

in the meantime, you could make clever little IOUs with pics of the actual item. this comes from someone who give b-day presents about 6 months late, just because i'm horrible with dates.

This actually sounds familiar, like someone on lj ranted about amazon doing the same damn thing to them last year.

Actually, it might have been me.

My condolences. At least returns to amazon aren't hard.

That's weird. They sent me an email and said that they would expedite shipping for free during the holidays if anything like that were to happen - which it didn't. I would push the issue and see if they won't overnight it.

Ugh, that sucks! Here's to hoping that the stuff gets to you on time anyway. Sometimes the mail does come through.... sometimes.

Ugh! That is so, so annoying, I'm so sorry for you. I normally love Amazon, but I needed a book for a paper with an approaching deadline. I paid through the nose for overnight shipping, and it arrived...three weeks later. By then I'd already had to buy it in the store since the paper was due. They still, of course, charged me the ridiculous price of the overnight shipping. Feh.

Arg.
Brings back memory of the only time I ordered something from Amazon for Christmas. It arrived mid-January, despite their claim that sure, it was still time to order for Xmas when I did it.

Oddly enough, I've never trusted them again for gifts for special occasions...

Did you find a solution?

I called them repeatedly, and finally I got a nice guy who shipped everything overnight. I got it in time. Yay!

I also got the original package days later (way after Christmas), which I just wrote "Return to Sender" on.

So I guess the key is to keep bugging them until you find someone nice!
