Sorry, that was obviously a generalization of Martha fans. I HAVE indeed seen many Martha fans who say that it's somehow *unfair* to Martha that the Doctor doesn't fall in love with her. I find this attitude 1.) incomprehensible and 2.) vaguely sexist, as if Martha's only value is calculated in the Doctor's affections for her. That was the attitude I was addressing in my comment.
I do agree that the Doctor could have been *better* with his praise (Thanks for saving my ass/the world as opposed to "You are a star") but it's not like her never praised her or told her he thought she was awesome. From some of the attitudes in this fandom, you'd think that Ten was literally telling her she sucked in every episode. He wasn't. They were close friends who appreciated each other. Martha felt second best because she knew he didn't have romantic feelings for her, which is her deal and why she left. It was a great character moment for her.
Obviously this is all IMO but people act as if he was mean to her. He wasn't.
