Oh, god, John Simm is just so cute that I can't even stand it. Look at this interview. And he's so adorably shy in this one (contains spoilers for the end of Life on Mars). And he's such a Paul McCartney fanboy! (It's not my fault; [livejournal.com profile] writteninstars mentioned watching YouTube clips of John Simm all day, and I couldn't get the idea out of my head.)

I watched him in this thing called "Chiller" last night and it turns out that David Fury was right about me after all. Because John Simm plays a serial killer and I totally just wanted to hug the poor darling. He's all sad and lonely! His mother abandoned him! It's not his fault he keeps killing people; his evil imaginary boyfriend will leave him if he doesn't!

He's such a cute little woobie, all angsty and sweet and sad, and then he turns into evil scary psycho!killer. This is clearly the best sort of role for John Simm. He's so young in this; he must've been around 25 but he looks about 17. And I haven't seen him in anything with this much homoerotic subtext since Doctor Who.

[livejournal.com profile] lozenger8 has a great summary/picspam here which anyone interested in adorable pretty boys being psycho and having lots of ho!yay really ought to click. (It took me four tries to write "click" instead of "lick." Freudian slip, much?)

Also, I may have just spent $100 on John Simm DVDs from amazon.co.uk. What? I need to test out my new region free DVD player.

***

In, um, non-Simm related news, I listened to three Doctor Who audio books read by David Tennant. It's super fun to hear him read them in his adorable Scottish accent, and then do all the characters with different voices. The Resurrection Casket and The Feast of the Drowned were pretty forgettable childrens' stories, but The Stone Rose was nifty.

The story is a lot more emotionally driven, plus it takes place in ancient Rome, which is a lot more interesting to me than the present and future settings of the other two. But the main interesting thing was that it was insanely Doctor/Rose shippy. Rose gets turned to stone and the Doctor gets all sad trying to find her, then goes back to the present and has this big angsty conversation with Mickey about having lost her, and then gets her back and (through some timey wimey method) she ends up seeing him during the period where he's all heartbroken and missing her, and she wants to go to him but she can't because it'll screw up the timeline. Oh, and he tells her he loves her! In a casual aside, but still. The shippers must've gone insane for this book!

(Speaking of whom, as much as I like Rose, the crazy Doctor/Rose shippers are really starting to annoy me. "Girl in the Fireplace" is one of the best episodes of season two, goddammit! Sopia Miles is a great actress and Reinette is a strong, three-dimensional character. Stop whining just because it makes you feel insecure about your ship! And... and... the Doctor's an alien! And he and Rose aren't married! Stop comparing him to a cheating husband!

Okay. *deep breath* *steps far away from DW fandom*)

Thanks for throwing in your $0.02 worth about that ep. I'm tired of feeling guilty because I like it so much.

And John Simm is wicked shaggable. That is all.

What's their to feel guilty about? It's fantasy. As long as you don't go shagging actual serial killers, you'll be fine.

Although I do admit a slight sense of guilt at enjoying something so predictably written. But. It's gorgeous young John Simm, so really, it's not like I'm enjoying it for the writing. ;)

Oh I was referring to The Girl in the Fireplace, LOL!

(but yeah, John Simm is hottest as the Master...)

LOL, sorry. I forgot I even wrote that part of the entry. It was kind of an afterthought, since John Simm is eating my brain.

And yeah, I think most sane people realize it's a great episode. It's just the rabid shippers who feel compelled to rip on it. >:(

*notes that I LIKE Doctor/Rose, just not to the exclusion of everything else that's good about the show*

Oh man. Now you've gone and mentioned it which means I will spend all of tomorrow (my day off) doing exactly that again. I should have counted how many times I've watched the clip from The Lakes in which he teases Lucy and pulls away. SMOLDERING!

Good Lord, I <3 John Simm!

Have you watched the entirety of The Lakes? Although I'm permanently traumatized by the awfulness of season two, I did very much enjoy the many John Simm moments in season one. It's too bad the Lucy relationship is in season two, because I really did like that, but the rest of season two was so awful that I can't imagine ever watching it again.

I have indeed watched the entirety of The Lakes and I was really surprised by actually not hating Lucy in season 2. It was like the woobification of a girl for once although not quite as awful as that.

Me too! I was annoyed with how they wrote her as this shrill one dimensional evil slut in season one, and then they gave her dimensions in season two and I ended up liking her.

I totally have a type, and it applies to both men and women, but it's just a lot more rare of an archetype for a female character. Make her totally awful and unlikeable and then show you her Deep Inner Pain and reveal her likable qualities while still keeping her dark side.

She and Danny were so good together. >:)

Exactly! And I know Danny really needed to get out of that town, but I almost wish he has stayed and taken up with Lucy and flaunted their awesomeness all over the place.

Hey, did you watch Sex Traffic yet? 'Cause I love his cute glasses and his save-the-women-of-the-world-ness. And also, I just think the movie is important and awesome.

Not yet, although it is definitely on my list. Apparently it's depressing? I don't do well with depressing movies so I haven't rushed to watch that one. But it's got John Simm so obviously I will. ;)

The film is depressing, but also uplifting and inspiring. I mean, it's hard to watch, but ultimately worth it; however, I actually like depressing films so keep that in mind before deciding to watch it.
