White Collar is filming a 20-minute walk away… I couldn’t resist!

So um, in case anyone was wondering, Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay are real. I can confirm this because I just walked past them on the street.

I’m so embarrassed that I’m excited by this, because it’s just a TV show and they’re just actors and whatever, I know it doesn’t actually matter, but apparently I just can’t help being a fangirl at heart because OMG I JUST WALKED PAST MATT BOMER AND TIM DEKAY *SQUEE TIMES A MILLION*.

Er, so, yeah, it's really Jeff Eastin's fault, because all day yesterday he was tweeting photos of them filming at the Williamsburgh Savings Bank, which is about a twenty minute walk from where I work. But I was mature yesterday and didn't walk over there, because it's just a TV show and I'm a New Yorker and WHATEVER.

But then he continued tweeting pictures of them there today and I'M ONLY HUMAN OKAY. Specifically, I am a human fangirl. I get an hour lunch break--I could walk over there, see them filming, walk back, and still have time to get lunch. And it's a beautiful day. The temptation was too much.

So I walked over, thinking it would be cool to see them filming because when I see the episode I can look back and say "Hey, I saw them filming this." I love their location shoots, how beautiful they make NYC look. And okay I was hoping to maybe see Matt or Tim but, y'know, I don't like to get my hopes up.

Anyway, my timing was perfect. I walked over wondering if they were even still there and as soon as I got there I SAW THEM. I didn't have to lurk or anything--Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay were across the street from me, waiting for the same light I was waiting for. So I briefly contemplated waiting on the corner and watching them walk past, but that would be creepy, so when the light changed I walked with it and walked right past them. Matt was eating an apple, Tim had his jacket slung over his shoulder, they were both carrying script pages, they were talking to each other animatedly, and they both looked gorgeous. I walked right past and tried not to grin like an idiot.

Afterward I walked by where they'd been filming and then walked to the grocery store where I picked up some vegan food to take with me to Fort Lauderdale tomorrow (oh yeah, I'm going to Fort Lauderdale tomorrow!), and made it back to work within my allotted hour.

I did get a photo on my phone (hopefully without them noticing, I really didn't want to disturb them) since it took a long time for the light to change. This isn't interesting compared to Eastin's tweets, but take it as proof that I'm not randomly making shit up. Click to embiggen.

I was worried I'd lose the ability to breathe if I actually saw Matt Bomer is person. But it is a point of pride for New Yorkers not to gawk at celebrities, so I (just barely) managed to survive. It also helped that they were in costume and that I watch the show in HD--seeing them in reality was exactly like seeing them on TV.

Hmm, okay, I crossposted. Thanks for the suggestion. (I normally wouldn't crosspost to a community, but I think it's helpful to do so at DreamWidth as a way to boost comm traffic.)

You know what's interesting when I look at that street pic? How it about half Caucasian and half African-American, and yet those ratios are totally not represented in our TV shows. :P

Oh, god, it drives me crazy. I love this show, but it's horrifying to see Jones and Cruz in the background giving exposition and performing supportive services while all the character development and focus is on the two white guys. (And don't even get me started on the clueless way White Collar writes women solely in terms of their relation to and effect on men.)

I had pretty much sworn off American TV because these issues bother me so much, but then Matt Bomer had to go and be all pretty and talented and I couldn't resist. The sad thing is, White Collar is probably better than most current US shows (not that I can say for sure--I don't even have cable anymore). But obviously they have such a long way to go.

The main time you see film crews in New York is when you're trying to get somewhere and they are IN YOUR WAY GRRR, which gets old really quick. Plus it's usually something I don't care about like one of the Law and Order iterations or whatever, icky crime shows.

But... yeah... White Collar is way more squee-inducing! I was really lucky to see them at all--I was bracing myself to not see them so didn't know how to respond when they were SUDDENLY RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM ME OMG. Which is probably for the best as it went by really quick and I didn't have a chance to do anything terribly embarrassing. :)

Did you see a lot of fans out and about? Your post got me thinking that Jeff's many tweets may have the unintentional affect of drawing a lot of gawkers since if you live in the area you would be familair with the location!

I actually didn't see anyone else who looked like a fan while I was there. Matt and Tim were just standing with other pedestrians waiting to cross the street--as far as I can tell, no one was paying them any notice. (But I don't know what happened before or after I was there--I saw them for less than a minute.)

I assume Jeff was only tweeting so much because it's the first week of filming--he said he's going back to LA tomorrow. Although there are a lot of sites that track NYC TV shooting locations--if fans really want to stalk them, they'll find a way. Thankfully, most New Yorkers are pretty inured to TV shows shooting nearby, so I hope they don't get too much unwanted attention.

This is made of SQUEE - I try to be mature about things like this, but you are SO the hero of the day, even if you are a cool NY person not impressed by celebrities! Now, I happen to think that Matt is adorable, but Tim is so hot as to be radiant, and I'd have had a hard time containing the slack jaw of admiration. You are right up there with Jeff Eastin as a fan feeder today! (Have fun in FLA)

They are both very beautiful men. I wasn't really expecting to see them at all, so seeing them both together was a fantastic surprise! :)

This type of thing could finally get me to visit the city. I've been living in New York State most of my life, but I've never been to the city because I am mostly terrified of large groups of people. This, though? This is amazingly awesome.

Thank you for sharing! Every sign that season two is indeed coming is joyful, as I feel like it's been forever since the end of season one already.
