I, um, I kind of really love Dean Winchester.
I’m in the middle of season three. I would’ve gotten farther, but one of my best friends had a housewarming party on Sunday. I couldn’t quite bring myself to pretend I was sick and stay home watching Supernatural, but it was a close call. She lives an hour away! That’s two hours of my Supernatural time! Not to mention that I also had to spend several hours standing around and talking to people about stuff other than Dean Winchester’s adorable freckles and entertainingly angsty martyr complex. MY LIFE IS SO DIFFICULT.
Uh, anyway, so I’m enjoying the show. The weird thing is that the power of fannish osmosis had informed me of pretty much all the bad stuff about the show, but not of any of the good stuff. I had no idea how fascinating the family dynamic is, how deeply and thoughtfully the show explores its main characters, how much the characters grow and change, how good the actor who plays Dean is, or how smart and funny the humor often is.
I’m still treading cautiously in the fandom because I don’t want to spoil myself, but once I catch up I’m totally going to leap in. netweight wrote this fantastic recs post for the SPN newbie, and
fodian linked me to
jolielaide’s rec list (she has a tag for “crying”!) and… yeah, there is such a bounty of fanwork in this fandom, and it’s a total bonus to have an excuse to catch up with old friends who I haven’t shared a fandom with in years. :)
