That was a really good episode right up until the end, when Dean kills Jewel Staite.
It's not that I mind Dean making terrible fucked-up decisions, and I appreciate the follow-through on Dean's pathological belief that he is a monster who can never change.
But can we please not have the epic manpain manifest itself in ways that directly result in violence against women? Because that does not make me sympathize with the poor suffering woobie man; it makes me sympathize with the woman he just murdered.
So, um, fuck you, Supernatural.
Anything I'd add would just be repeating the points in
thingswithwings's The Price and the fabulous meta that goes with it.
(And, *sigh*, up until then it was so good! I loved all the hurt/comfort [tied up with a bow and presented to the fangirls on a silver platter!], and I loved Terminator!Dean sawing off his own cast and chasing after Sam, and that kid who plays young Sam is really fabulous, and the consistency in the Sam characterization is excellent. This show would be so damn perfect if it would just stop dumping heaping loads of misogyny all over its otherwise awesome stories.)
