I like all this analysis, but it's complicated by the fact that the show's done a pretty good job of highlighting how awful "do anything for your family" is, even as applied to our POV characters. Amy was, I agree, shown as a heroine for killing her mother for Sam's sake, but what she did as an adult paralleled the worst of what the Winchesters have done, not the best. I agree that Dean's suicidal and identifying with Amy, but I'm not sure he's wrong to do so.
