Pretty much the only way I can see Dean changing is by quitting hunting, but I'm willing for the show to surprise me.
Right now he's on a path that's leading to a miserable death (via hunting, alcoholism, or suicide). I hope that's not the fate that SPN is actually intending for the character; if 5x22 was the original plan, it apparently wasn't always.
I agree that Dean's suicidal and identifying with Amy, but I'm not sure he's wrong to do so.
In what way isn't he wrong? I'm really curious; it's hard for me to see Dean's belief that he's a killer who can never change as anything but a pathologically one-sided perspective, that looks only at the worst Dean's done and ignores everything good he's ever done.
