As if I needed more stress in my life
Aug. 4th, 2003 10:49 amI'm going to have to move All About Spike to a new server asap. Anyone know a decent web host that provides MySQL support? As in, when you have MySQL problems, they don't shut you down and send you a link to mysql.com, but actually offer, like, support? I don't need that much server space, just MySQL (and PHP). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if you happen to be looking for server space? ViaVerio sucks.

Thanks again.

Date: 2003-08-04 03:43 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, no. All I know is that they do support MySQL, and have been wonderful in general when it comes to making sure that their customers aren't having any problems with their sites. Whenever I needed any help, customer service was very friendly and quick to answer. The only quibble I've had with Aventure is that you have to register an account with customer service before you can start requesting help. But that's a very minor quibble. My experience with Aventure has been positive so far.

Date: 2003-08-04 03:50 pm (UTC)Full disclosure: My friend James runs this.
Further full disclosure: I have used it for about five years. The level of customer service he offers is unparalled, which is why I've used it for five years after having jumped from web host to web host for the five years prior. He will take you through every step. He helped me build my MySQL scripts. No, really! If there's a problem with the collocation facility, he drives from San Diego to LA THAT MINUTE to yell at them and fix it himself if he has to. He's the sweetest man alive. When he wanted to buy new servers but was going to get a better price on colo, he instantly tried to pass the savings onto us before we said that we didn't mind paying the low prices he already had and then he could get those new servers. Charging us more overhead just didn't occur to him, because he's that kind of guy. Customer service requests come back within a day at the most -- more likely hours -- and he's such a fantastic guy that he goes way outside the scope of what you'd expect from a web hoster.
Yes, that was quite a sales pitch, but I'm as happy with his hosting as that long paragraph makes it sound.
