[livejournal.com profile] anniesj wrote this gorgeous, amazing, heart-breaking Sirius/Remus fic that made me cry at work. Read it here.

I'm currently compulsively reading my way through [livejournal.com profile] musesfool's RL/SB recs list, which is awesome. Very helpful to someone who is new to the pairing....

I've never had an OTP before, but I really do love this pairing....

I'm eating a varied box of gorgeous, delicious heirloom tomatoes from the Union Square greenmarket. I love that place.

My landlord is stupid. He won't replace the air conditioner that came with the apartment, because he claims it works. Yeah, if you count working to be blowing the fuse every five minutes and adding an extra $200/month to my electrical bill, without actually even cooling the room. You can have it on full blast and the room is still around 100 degrees in summer, making it pretty much unlivable. How many roommates have left because of the heat ....?

I think I'm going to replace it myself, because in the end I'll save on the electrical bill. But I'll have to pay to have it installed and everything too, because it's in the wall and I have no clue how to do that. And I can't do it now because I want to have spending money in Vegas....

Landlord also won't fix the ceiling fan, which is stupid. He says that they don't cover it, and that I must've installed it. Um, the damn thing is so ancient and creaky that I'm certain it was installed before I was born. Whatever. It's only a stiflingly hot NYC summer... who needs a ceiling fan?

So this weekend I'm going to have the lock changed (again) so that they can't show up without me knowing, and then bring the cats back. (My dad said that they're fine, but also that Lucifer keeps breaking out of the basement and running upstairs, so obviously he's bored out of his mind. My poor baby.)

They did fix the ceiling, which is good. And I found a roommate, also good--he's moving in tomorrow. (It's going to be weird living with a guy, but he is vegan). He's staying almost a year--yay!

I haven't been reading Buffyverse fic. I'm at the point now where my instant reaction is to recoil at even the mention of it. I'm just so not into that universe anymore at all, and I so hate what Mutant Enemy did to it. I was a fan of soulless Spike, not of soulled Spike, and yet I spent ages watching miserably this character who replaced/destroyed the character I loved. The idea of doing that for even one second longer is pretty horrifying. Sorry.

Here's an idea, though. I'm feeling guilty about ignoring fanfic writers who might want their recent work archived on my site. If you're one of those people who I've archived before, could you possibly send me a list (with links) to your recent finished-ready-to-be-archived work that might fit All About Spike? I find that quite a few writers have a hesitancy to promote themselves this way, but believe me, this will make it much easier on me. Otherwise I worry and panic and think "I've missed so much that she's written lately; there's no way I'll ever catch up, so why even bother?" Whereas if you just list it for me, I can catch up easily and not feel like I'm missing something.

[livejournal.com profile] ck594us did this, and notice, I read and archived her recent work very quickly.

Of course, if it's a pain to do this, don't bother. But if you're wishing your stuff was archived at AAS, this would make it happen much more quickly.

I think I'm probably going to stick to reading Spike fic from authors I've read and archived before, or else stuff that's hugely highly recommended. I'm not going to just randomly pick up a Spike fic and start reading it anymore. I'd like to; I really enjoyed running my website. But I'm just so not interested in the topic at all.

And this damn Harry Potter fanfic keeps calling me....

And just to clarify for the millionth time, I'm not going to shut All About Spike down. Not for years and years and years, if ever. It's an archive, it should be there for people to read and reference, even if I'm not updating it anymore.

I had a guy for a roomie once. He was a pilot with AA (we were in Waterbury). He was gone half the week, and it worked well. One of our rules was "no partners sleeping over/living in", which promptly was broken when he found a fuckwit stewardess who was there.all.the.time.

But, I've always had great relationships with guys, so that wasn't a problem. Until Lori.

So, yay for you! Roomie. When are you not going to be around? I wanna call in the next couple of days...

So far he seems cool. He's much cleaner and more conscientious that any of my female roommates have been. Maybe it's a vegan thing....

I'll talk to you in the chat tonight. When am I around ... well, um, probably not much this week. Tonight I'll be chatting with you guys, tomorrow [livejournal.com profile] jaydk wants to go see Harry Potter 3 in IMAX one "final" time, Wednesday is Common Ro at [livejournal.com profile] psubrat's, Thursday is Common Ro in Long Island, Friday is free at the moment, and Saturday I hope you'll come and we can do the Woodstock show. :)

You can always call tonight before or after the meeting, or we can just chat then, or during the day sometime... You have my number, right?

This is really sad. All About Spike has been such a wonderful source of fic over the years because of your passion and it's awful that you've been driven away from the Buffyverse. Another thing to hate ME for, then.

But, wish you much happiness with your Potterverse (or whatever the correct term is!), and thanks for All About Spike.

Aww.. glad you are getting your babies home!

Thanks. :)

I'm really sad that my site is dying, too, but everything has to come to an end eventually....

I bought a big Pifco fan (one on a stand, not for the ceiling) about 15 years ago and its been a godsend during the rare heatwaves we get in Jersey - its still working fine after all this time. That might be a temporary cheaper solution until you can afford the air con.

I wrote a Spike/Fred friendship story, but I figured it wasn't your cup of tea since Spike is all souled up. If you want it anyhow, it's here, but I totally understand if you don't. Headers are in the "leave feedback" link to LJ.

I know I still need to do a bio.

You know, you could do a Potterverse archive... ;)

Thanks.

Don't stress over the bio; I'll be glad to have it whenever you get a chance.

I'm still new to HP fandom and don't know if I'll be staying (frankly I hope I'll get over this really soon because I do NOT want to be obsessed with a dead character). But if I do stay I will definitely keep my eye out for a place where I might fit... I'm usually not content to be an observer for long--I like to participate.....

Just read your Spike/Fred story. Very sweet. Is it okay if I archive it? :)

I don't suppose there's something like a tenant's tribunal that you could gently threaten your landlord with regarding the airconditioning? Or you could record the number of breakdowns and make room temperature readings and then post them to him.

I'm glad to hear you have a room-mate at last. Most of the housemates I've had have been men.

It's kind of you to keep reading some BtVS/AtS fic when you're hating the shows now. Enjoy HP.

No; legally they're not required to replace it. They have to provide heat and water, but that's it. A/C is a "luxury." (Though they're supposed to maintain appliances, but if they say it "works," they're not going to fix it.)

I don't think I'll be into the HP thing for long. (I'm really hoping not.) We'll see.

Congrats on the roommate and the fixed ceiling. Glad your cats are coming home soon.

And not quite so randomly - AAS rocks and I love it. ;)

Congratulations on the new roomie. I hope he works out better than the last one did!

F-ing landlord. I don't know how you can stand it in the city without adequate airconditioning. Yikes. The landlord should be drawn and quartered.

Thanks for keeping AAS up. It's a great resource. I'm thankful to all the fanfic writers out there who corrected all the ME mistakes. My hat's off to you. I luv you all! *getting a bit emotional* *wipes eyes* *sigh*

Wish I could attend WriterCon. Why must I work? Why haven't I won the lotto? :-)
