Wow. Season two of Queer as Folk was pretty awful. It wasn't even half as good as season one--and I had major problems with season one.

Too bad. Does it ever get any better? (No spoilers, please.)

It was like, season one had all these important life changing events--birth, death, loss of virginity, coming out, gay bashing, first long-term relationships, etc.

And season two just kinda coasted, with almost nothing happening at all.

In a word, no. But I never really watched it for the plot.

Well, but like, even if not for plot... season one had all this angst, and even some violence and blood, and sort-of suicide attempts, and y'know, interesting stuff.

And season two had, uh.... a lesbian wedding? an old guy dieing on an airplane?

Season two committed the cardinal sin of being boring. Season one was lame in many places, but rarely boring.

I can't remember that much of season 3, but I do recall it does turn...soapier. But yeah, more Brian as well.

The show's pretty bad, and doesn't really get better. Brian, however, is pretty cool. Some dislike some things that happen with his characterization later, while I say that it represents a good character arc.

I guess I should revise my question: instead of does it get better, does it get less boring? Because season two was so one-note and dull...

Ack, you're making me curious about Brian. And nervous. Don't spoil me, I'll know soon enough....

No. IMO it just gets progressively worse. I would however reccomend watching the orginal UK version of the show if you can. I found it to be much better writen and acted.

I think each successive season of QaF gets less interesting than the previous. I've no plans to buy S4 or S5 on DVD, and if I had it to do over again, I'm not sure I'd have even bought S3. Pretty naked boys can only take you so far.

*sniffle*

But it had so much potential, and Brian Kinney is such a great character...

He is. Which is why I've spent so much blood, tears, and sweat on TMWWT. The boy deserves a better story than Cowlip is giving him.

And thank you for that. :)

*can't wait to re-read it, actually knowing who the character is now!*

From what I've gathered, S1 is closely adapted from the UK original, as written by the stonkingly talented Russell T Davies. After that it goes its own way.

Yeah, unfortunately its own way is not nearly as dark or interesting as I'd like... Alas, for all the HOT GAY SEX, there's really not much of an edge to this show.

I'm so proud of you for adding more iconses...

Brian IS the show, and he does okay in subsequent seasons (not that I remember specifics), so even if the show continues along the path of lame, I still find he continues to be interesting. But, then again, I'm easier to please than many.

Haha, yeah I finally replaced all those old Spike icons.

Well, as long as Brian is on the show, it'll probably be worthwhile. For teh pretty if nothing else....

Personally I thought every season was better than the previous one. I thought season 1 felt off because they were shoehorning the American characters into the UK storylines -- nothing wrong with the UK version at all, but the American characters didn't completely fit.

Really?

Well, I definitely liked season one better than season two. But maybe it will improve in season three.

Hee, thank you for giving me a bit of hope. ;)
