Hey, ummm...

anyone have recommendations for Queer as Folk fic with no spoilers for anything after the end of season two?

'Cause season three is in the mail, but it could take 5-10 days to get here. I need something to tide me over.

I'm looking for Brian-centric fic, either dark/angsty or funny, not soppily romantic. Pairing irrelevant (but I like Michael better than Justin). Length irrelevant. Rating irrelevant. Good characterization essential.

A rec for a good archive would also help. One that lists what episode the fic is set after, so that I don't get spoiled.

[And I still think the show sucks.]

Thanks in advance, if anyone answers. :)

Even though I've only seen like one whole season, and am not into the fandom in any way, I have to agree with you - I prefer Brian with Michael and not Justin too.

Just wanted to say. ;oD

Awesome. Why do you prefer Michael to Justin?

I think I have a bunch of reasons, mostly sort of visceral instinctive reactions (Justin reminds me of myself at that age--he needs to experience other relationships instead of focusing on his first; the deep friendship between Michael and Brian strikes a deep chord with me because I have major friendship issues; I tend to value friendships more than romantic relationships; etc).

I'm still thinking about it, though. And I've only seen the first two seasons, so my opinion could change.

I think it's because of the very deep ties Michael and Brian have, as you have mentioned. They feel very right together - the fit works, and they so obviously love one another so much. Whether or not it's the kind of romantic love that lasts, I dunno, but they're very bonded by friendship and that touches me a lot.

I haven't read any fic (well, once, some lame-assed thing which I've very much forgotten...), so if you find it, pass it on.

Have you read that eeency thing that Herself wrote about Spike/Brian? It's not nearly long enough, but it's something.

But hey... nothing wrong with reading it again. >:)

Thanks!

I often find myself reaching outside my favorite pairing of Brian/Michael in order to find good Brian characterizations. I'll put up with anything, even Justin, for a Brian who sounds like Brian.

[livejournal.com profile] valereix gives good Brian. So does [livejournal.com profile] seperis. Her website Illuminated Text also has a very good recs page, though again it's almost all Brian/Justin. My two favorites on that list are Julad's "The Importance of Being Brian" and Seperis's own "Stumble and Fall."

Julad's story is spoilery for Season Three, but I'm pretty sure Seperis's is not. The rest should have disclaimers.

The most comprehensive B/M archive is Always.

The most comprehensive general archive is probably Across the Pond.

Hope these help. To be honest, I don't think you'll find the wealth of good fic you so famously found for Spike--Brian seems harder for many authors to capture. I s'pose he's rather like Angel in that respect.

Oooh, awesome. Thank you thank you thank you! :)

I immediately went to Valerie, but all her stuff has spoilers. As soon as I catch up with the show, I will devour her fic. I remember her talking about B/J incessantly when the the show first came out. ;) Then I went to Rachel Anton and Mint Witch, because I love their Buffy fic, but again, spoilers!

I will check out the fics you recommended, and the archives. I really appreciate your input. :)

Yeah, I think we were incredibly lucky to have such a wealth of quality fic in Spike fandom. I haven't seen anything approaching that in any other fandom I've been into.
