On an unrelated note, I was wondering if you got the email I sent, or if it somehow got snagged as spam. I wanted to ask you a few questions about running a site like All About Spike. Would that be okay?
Yeah. Just don't consider ever having an abortion or try to assert domestic partnership rights if you're gay, because now the Supreme Court will shoot down any law that even remotely confirms or favors such things. Yay! We will soon be living under a complete anti-humanist, misogynistic theocracy! Margaret Atwood must be bursting with pride at her foresight.
Shit. I'm going to tell my nephews and niece to always use the strongest condoms they can find (that is, providing they aren't soon outlawed along with birth control pills, the morning-after pill AND abortions, but then again, probably not, because these things are for women and condoms are for mighty, dominant men) because if anyone gets pregnant, there will be no recourse.
The prospect of more hateful anti-gay legislation being sanctioned and made into law makes me sick, not in the least because it reminds me of the sort of thing the Nazis did to the Jews in the 1930s and, of course, the Jim Crow laws of the South (and other places -- California had wholesale racist laws against Asians for a long time). The possibility that blind, stupid hatred will now be an official part of our laws for the first time since 1965 makes me totally ashamed and fearful of the country we're leaving to our young people.
Of course I will write my senators and congresspeople to demand that they fight the confirmation of a far-right-wing justice -- I just don't know if it will do any good at this point. I have a horrible feeling we're going to see a Clarence Thomas-like fight very soon, with Republicans very hilariously playing the race card (which they only do when it serves their purposes).
