Had a great Thanksgiving with my friend Cat. She stayed over for a few days and we went to Candle 79 for Thanksgiving, where we enjoyed a delicious meal and she ran into David Duchovny in line for the bathroom. I had Thanksgiving with Mulder! In an all-vegan restaurant! :) Of course she was a consummate New Yorker and didn’t let on that she had any idea who he was, though we are both X-Files fans from way back and spent the rest of the meal squeeing over it.

Why does SPN S7 feel like it's going through the motions and lacking the dynamism and resonance of previous seasons? spoilers for 7x10 )

Tonight, I finally get to see The Dark Knight in IMAX. Woohoo!

I realized I never did write about why I liked the X-Files movie. So here are my reasons, with the caveat that I was a major X-Files fan, but was never part of fandom, and stopped watching around season five, so I’m pretty unfamiliar with the fan wars or later events of the series. (I was eleven when I started watching. My dad allowed me fifteen minutes on AOL per week. Yeah. No fandom for me. But everyone who signed my eighth grade yearbook wrote something about X-Files, because it was all I could talk about for a couple of years there.)

The X-Files movie was so good! It was like a love letter to fans. I adored it completely.

It’s funny because I started losing interest in X-Files back when the first movie came out and it was kind of … mediocre. Lots of big budget explosions and very little depth. And then years later this one comes out and is awesome! I’m glad that it made up for the previous one.

It was funny and thoughtful and had wonderful exploration of the characters, their relationship, and their place in the world. And I love that Mulder is as batshit crazy as ever. And Scully is so brilliant and awesome and OMG the world needs more female characters like her.

Anyway. I have to go to bed since it was a midnight movie, but I’ll try to write a proper review later.

[livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns finally wrote her long-threatened Big Post of Jaime Love. Well, at least, she wrote Part 1. Check it out.

If you still haven't read A Song of Ice and Fire ... oh, c'mon already! It's perfect for Spike fans; I already got [livejournal.com profile] drujan and [livejournal.com profile] 10zlaine hooked.

If only this fic by [livejournal.com profile] lunasky had been the actual ending of Veronica Mars this week.

Speaking of VM, spoilers for 2x09 )

And speaking of nostalgia, [livejournal.com profile] sophia_helix posted this poll about best and favorite Darin Morgan episodes of X-Files.

*sigh*

Remember Darin Morgan? Remember X-Files? Remember the cockroach running across the screen, or that time Mulder shrieked?

*gets all depressingly nostalgic*

That was back before I knew about internet fandom (I think maybe we had AOL, pay by the minute, and my dad let me have 15 minutes a week or something useless like that). But I was a fan, like in the fan club, and my best friend and I used to watch it together over the phone, calling each other at the commercials and screaming about whatever amazing plot twist had just happened. And we'd have sleepover marathons and we even kinda wrote fanfic--at least, Mulder and Scully parodies appeared as characters in original stuff that we wrote.

Stupid nostalgia.
It's late, I'm tired, I don't have time to proofread this entry. I apologize in advance for any glaring typos, grammatical errors, etc.

Saturday I spent the night at Jane's. We had a sleepover and watched a lot of TV. She just got her XF S2 DVDs, so we watched two episodes ("3" and "Humbug"). Season 2 was when I was *really* into XF, so it was cool to see those episodes again. We also watched some Smallville, which I'm really not too fond of. (Lana needs to die. Now.) But I very much appreciated the Clark/Lex subtext. That show gets about a million times better every time Lex comes onscreen. We also watched two Highlander episodes ("Comes a Horseman" and "Revelation 6:8") I made Jane watch them, because I love Highlander and those are my favorite episodes; they're Methos-centric and so well done. I think she liked them well enough. We didn't go to sleep until 7am; then the next day we ran errands and I helped her set up this cool wireless internet thing for her laptop. I also showed her how to use her livejournal (so now she has no excuse not to post).

So, now I'm catching up with fic and posts. Updated 3 works in progess, which you'll find on the homepage ([livejournal.com profile] anniesj's Waking the Dead, [livejournal.com profile] ginmar's Tabula Obscura, and [livejournal.com profile] nashvillain615's Crisis Management). Yay, good fic!

Also, read the finale spoilers (sorry Jane! I couldn't resist). Cutting for the vaguest hints of spoilers, but there really aren't any here )

Also, I filled out that Buffy Survey Meme Thing (copied from [livejournal.com profile] rachelanton73).

buffy meme survey thing )

Last week I filled out that Spike survey that is here (the one that the professor of popular culture is doing for a Buffy project). So I decided to post some of my responses here.
