Is it wrong that my response to this is to want to post lots and lots of meta about how bored I am by Old Who and about how Rose is made of awesome?

I should just come out with it, shouldn't I? Make a big public announcement. "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I KNOW I'VE BEEN CALLING MYSELF A FEMINIST AND COMPLAINING ABOUT SEXISM FOR YEARS, BUT ACTUALLY, I THINK RAPE IS AWESOME. YAY RAPE!"

I mean seriously. Digging up meta from five years ago in a different fandom is PATHETIC. Turning a nuanced argument about how BtVS disempowers women into "OMG SHE LIKES RAPE" is also PATHETIC. It doesn't even deserve a response aside from LOLs at how low these people sink to avoid having to come up with coherent arguments.

Man, which fandom was worse? The only thing I can think of is Harry Potter (BNF plagiarists, astral wives, Harmoanians), but thankfully I was barely even on the periphery of that.

There's a difference between disagreement and flames. I'm fine with polite disagreement because it often means an interesting discussion. I don't really mind flames, either, because it means there's something to laugh my ass off about. So being linked from who_daily is kind of a win-win situation. >:) (And if they are so bothered--dude, it's really easy to not read my journal if I'm so upsetting that you can't help but flame me.)

Yeah, I can't really figure out what I did to make them continue wanking about something I posted two months ago (and five years ago), but whatever. Obviously I made an impression, and the crazy people are just making themselves look stupider.

I have no problem with those who like old Who. People are fans of all sorts of things that I don't get. I found it boring, I posted about it in my LJ. What's the problem? I'm not ripping on the people who love it; in fact a bunch of my friends who love it were giving me suggestions about which episodes to try next.

I found old Who pretty dull too. I did enjoy The Unearthly Child, but I was so bored with the first caveman episode that I stopped watching there. I like to watch things in order, but I have been thinking of just watching some of the 4th Doctor instead. Or The Mind Robber which sounds fun. I'm doing it all totally backwards, I've brought heaps of books to study what happened in the past so that I can understand the show history sufficiently, but I just can't stand actually sitting to watch someone shouting over and over, "We need fire!!!"

Yeah, I was pretty drunk at the time so my perceptions were a bit skewed, but that did seem to go on for about four hours straight. *sigh*

I actually did enjoy "An Unearthly Child." The characters were pretty interesting, Susan was cool, the Doctor was sufficiently mysterious, the plot moved along fairly quickly. But then the cavemen showed up and it all went downhill. :(

I'm probably going to jump ahead to when the Master shows up, since he is the thing (aside from David Tennant) that has made me squee most so far.
