Saw Garbage live last night at Hammerstein Ballroom. They were awesome; better than I expected. I think I knew every single song; they played a ton of stuff from their first album, which is one of my all time favorite records. And they tended to play the harder, heavier stuff, which I prefer.

I got Queer as Folk season three last night. I'm up to 3.07. (Between that and Garbage, I didn't sleep very long last night.) This show is so bad. But, Brian. *sigh* I have a strong suspicion that I'm going to be highly annoyed by the developments this season. We'll see. Don't spoil me.

Everyone else is commenting on the new pope. I suspect that anything honest I had to say would get me defriended by more than one person. cut to spare my catholic friends )
This is interesting. I forget how I clicked to it.

I'm a zombie today. Was up late last night baking more cookies -- anise rum. Yummy. (Basically the sugar cookie recipe with anise, cloves, and dark rum added. And I tried two icings, both with anise, one with rum and cloves, the other with maple syrup and cinnamon. Both good.)
I don't know what to say about the election. Bigotry and intolerance and hate and ignorance won. I love New York City, but I'm terrified of America right now.

I met up with [livejournal.com profile] saussy for coffee this morning and we hugged and commiserated. She's such a darling person. I'm glad that I'm here in this city, surrounded mainly by people who believe in freedom and choice and equality. Even if our country is ruled by people who don't want us to exist.

So anyway, I got back from London late last night. (I voted absentee, of course.) I had a wonderful time, so I'm going to try to write up a con report now. I loved the city, saw a ton of awesome sights including Stonehenge, Bath, Salisbury, the Tower of London, Highgate Cemetery, Hampton Court, etc. I also spent time at both conventions, saw an awesome concert by Christian Kane and band (attended by apparently half the cast of Angel), got up onstage for an hour in front of 800 people with a panel that included Jane Espenson, saw Marsters and Boreanaz together, did my first shot ever (of Jagermeister, oh my god) and actually sort of danced.... well, it was neat.

[listening to Kerry's concession speech and I feel like I'm going to vomit.... okay, focus, London....]

I am not really a big Marsters or Boreanaz fan so please don't read this if you do not want to hear criticism of these actors. I am only sharing my honest personal opinion. It is not meant as any kind of insult to those who do enjoy seeing these actors.

Just added a bunch more pictures to the slideshow of Union Square protest photos.

Small version or large version.

I want this t-shirt for DragonCon (but they don't have it in girl sizes).
My coworker just ran outside and took a bunch of photos of the protests going on in Union Square Park today. I made a little slideshow thingy and posted them on our website.

Click here to see the slideshow.

If you don't like the slideshow aspect, you can press "Pause Slideshow" and it will stop so that you can click through the photos yourself.

If you've got a fast connection and large screen resolution, you may want to view the large version, which has bigger photos/more detail.

And feel free to link this around if you think anyone will find it interesting.

Vote!

[livejournal.com profile] justhuman has posted links to the voter registration forms for each state.

If you're not registered, please do so now.

In almost all states you need to be registered 30 days before an election -- some may require more time. These links should also be able to lead you to the information about absentee ballots.

[livejournal.com profile] herself_nyc just posted about this. The ACLU has a quick and easy form right here that you can use to tell your congressional representatives that you object to the anti-gay marriage constitutional amendment.

Pass the link along.
I don't get it. Janet Jackson showed her breast on TV. So? Half the people in the world have them. It's part of her body. There's nothing "indecent" or "offensive" or "obscene" about it. The only thing that's going to corrupt children is their parents' weird repressive ideas about how sex and the human body are "dirty."

The thing I don't get is how all the media coverage just assumes that the reader knows and agrees that there's something inherently wrong and offensive about women's breasts. Nowhere have I seen any person questioning that, or explaining why there's something so horrible about this part of our bodies.

And, god, y'know? War? Starving children? Loss of constitutional rights? Failing schools? Lack of health care?

And America ignores this all in favor of an obsession with Janet Jackson's boobie?
