It *was* hot... I mean, Barrowman was, and god, if it had been ANYONE other than Marsters I would totally be in slash-fantasy-come-true heaven. But WHY did it have to be the walking midlife crisis himself?? After you see him staggering around drunk onstage making out with barely legal stalker groupies, it just DOESN'T WORK anymore.

It's *truth* that got you; *reality*, in a broader sense because I never saw any of that, only heard about it...but somewhere, at some time, the rose-colored pearle visions fell off and they wouldn't fit again. I think the moment it finally hit me was in London, watching him in the open-chested black pimp shirt, wailing his cheeseball teenage boy crap lyrics, obviously believing himself to be REALLY HOT SHIT, and me realizing that I COULD BE EXPLORING LONDON and instead I am watching the Second Coming of Hasselhoff.

I think you realized it before I did. Maybe you were around him more, since you worked more cons. I think his ickiness just rubs off the more you're around him.

I keep trying to figure out the exact moment, for me. I think the turning point was my first D*C next to him all day and then that concert, and the pinnacle was definitely London. Just thank god we buggered off and saw cool stuff.

the silhouette gave me seizures (after my laughter). i did try to make my eyes go left, though.

on the upside? the fighting was sexy and much of it was sort of shadowy, so definitely not as squicky.

But you're right - although I had a few BtVS/Spike flashbacks while watching the Torchwood S2 promo, JM's general real-life unsavoriness sort of obviates any actual delight in the overt slash. Too bad.

I watched the clip, and while I find Barrowman hotter than hot, I can't help but cringe. And did it remind you at all of how Buffy and Spike got off fighting first and then screwing? That's exactly what I was thinking while watching it.

Oh, it totally reminded me of Buffy and Spike. But back in the day, I used to like that. They both got off on violence, but they were equals, and superpowered beings who could take it. I didn't start hating it until ME twisted it into this whole "Spike is abusing Buffy" nonsense.

Amen to all of the above. I actually am in the camp of bemoaning JM's arrival on Torchwood, as well. I thankfully never got to see much of his antics in person, but I heard about it and saw him once at DragonCon in Atlanta. It only took 1 time of hearing him to think 'OMG, you have GOT to be kidding me'. Thankfully it was a con, and I had better things to do. :) I will definately have to check out that clip, though. If his character is good, I can get into that. I like characters - usually I don't give a whit about the actor for the exact reason someone mentioned above - if you meet the person, disappointment tends to be the rule. "Oh, damn. Human. :)"

This is so funny...I haven't been a fan of JM's for a coupla years now but I find this clip incredibly hot, and really quite amusing in the way they beat the snot out of each other so gleefully.

I can't beat up on JM, though...I enjoyed being a fan of his while it lasted, had some great times because of it - including meeting YOU! :oD - and I still think he's a pretty good actor.

But damn, that Barrowman is gorgeous...gotta see if I can find Torchwood to rent around here, 'cause I sure as hell can't afford to buy it!

And yes, you should totally watch Torchwood. And Barrowman in Doctor Who; I actually think he's a lot more appealing there.
